Colors and composition are good but I don't like that I can't read any of it, besides the character and the orb the rest just looks like a mess. Also I see the depth, but only so far as the middle ground. It doesn't feel like there's a foreground which bothers me.

ErrorCell responds:

Well you're pretty spot on with what I struggled with on this round. This scene was actually first created and rendered in 3D. I later painted right on top of it, added several layers of glow and glare... which is probably making this really awkward confusion between foreground background stuff. If I had another 3~4 hours of my life to remake this, that's basically what I'd work on.

Thanks for the commentary!

Gorgeous line art, I'm a huge fan of that black and white clean line style. The big black area on the bottom doesn't feel consistent with the rest of it though. Either make it all plain next time or add more black areas for balance.

TheIYouMe responds:

Yeah, I worried about it feeling inconsistent, when I was making it too. I wanted to try and make it as comic book-y as possible, which I'm still very much a novice at. But thanks for the feedback and the kind words!

I don't know if the jagged edges are part of the style or not, but I don't like them. Otherwise cool concept. Also I don't know if this should have an E rating.

ZabuJard responds:

good point lol i i will change the rating. thanks for your review as well!

The thing on her head is called a habit. I play a lot of The Binding of Isaac which is where I learned that. Lovely drawing, reminds me of Soul Eater's style.

P-cate responds:

oH YASSS, yeaaah, i was playing BOI yesterday and got that item, yes ofc xDm thanks for remembering me

Gordon Freeman riding a bear.

Why?

What a stupid question.

Rhunyc responds:

You can see into my mind?!?

Great work! The background gives the impression that they are outside to me, but in reality it's just a few good color choices and simple shapes. May I ask how you usually decide what to do for the background? Is it planned at the start or improvised?

Cairos responds:

When it comes to backgrounds it's mostly based on what I feel is right. I keep it very concise but enough to give an idea of atmosphere.

Oh man I just looked at your gallery-- you got a new fan. :D

G3no responds:

thanks a bunch!

I'm jelly, haha. Looks great, I hope you win that CINTIQ! o_o

Cryptid-Creations responds:

Thank you so much! Heh, I wouldn't count on it lol, but it was really fun to make either way :)

I like the shading. You could use a little work on your perspective though, the table seems to be seen from the top while the chair looks like it's viewed from a fisheye lens. On a separate note, may I ask how you made the background?

KraakenHex responds:

Oh, just filtered a piece of brown paper to darken it, then applied a variety of grunge brushes and other filters that looked nice. I wish I could be more specific, but I just play around when I make backgrounds. ;)

Cool! How do you draw so damn fast?

Cryptid-Creations responds:

I think it really depends on the subject's complexity. If it's a simple shape and easy to visualize, there's more time to render. But the more complicated, the less I can manage in a hour. This little guy was pretty simple. It's also backgroundless, so that saves a good 15 minutes :>

If you're a fan of your own work, then you'll be fine ~ Start small. If you can't, then start smaller ~ If you don't love what you put out, don't expect anyone else to
