Sick style, lots of cool ideas, chill vibe and ambitious shots. It could use more polish but also more camerawork and tension. Some moments could be enhanced by simply moving the camera and cutting audio in/out.

When the wolf showed up a slow zoom-out and audio-cut as the scene changed, then cut the audio back in when it snaps it's jaws on the fish would create and release tension very effectively. With the smoker we were introduced to a new character so you could build tension by hiding their face with a slow camera pan from the bottom-up. Then there's the inverse situation with the ice skater, the cracking ice built tension because it indicated danger, but there was no release because it didn't lead anywhere! Just some ideas to think about!

JUS-TiME responds:

Awesome feedback thanks so much for this! I initially timed the audio cutting in for the wolfs jaw snap, but cutting from straight silence to music was awkward, so instead decided on the subtle fade in. Camera pan with the smoker on the ship would have been a really nice touch, kindof a shame I didn't think of that before aha. For the ice cracking I was definitely going for a little more ambiguity. Good stuff yaya :)

I enjoyed the atmosphere a lot. The animation wasn't my cup of tea but it did the job. Personally, I had a hard time following what was going on. I feel like there was too much exposition in too short a time OR there was not enough foundation between bursts of exposition. I watched it only once all the way through but I don't feel like I need to watch it again. My 2 cents.

FraserMcNiven responds:

Nice, thanks for the feedback.

Cute lil animation. If I had some feedback it would be the pace is slow for something that loops. And the music is kinda grating.

Butzbo responds:

Yeah I ended up giving it more pauses hoping that the action could read better, but considering that it loops, I could have tested it a bit more to see if it worked being faster. Thanks for the comment! :)

Animation is good, my main issues are with the voice and his mouth not moving. Not offensive to the voice actor I'm sure they did their best but that performance falls flat especially when it's standing next to the beautiful animation. ALSO, you don't need to give an excuse for why you didn't make a fight scene if it wasn't your goal from the beginning. I would tell people complaining to go watch a Micheal Bay movie if they only thing that stimulates them is action.

Antonus responds:

jesus I feel you.

I watched this many times already, but it only just clicked that the whole premise of this could be based off your real life experience with asking for money for the work you do. Whether that's true or not, I can definitely relate to that feeling. You want to make something special, you want to blow people away like you know you can, but in that process you forget that you're a human being who can't work for free forever. Even though you don't want to admit it, at some point you have to ask to be compensated for your efforts. It can be a very difficult thing to accept, especially because artists don't become artists for the financial prospects. I love that can find deeper meaning in your animations this long after they've been out. Anyway I could ramble on, can't wait to see what's next!

gildedguy responds:

Thanks, I'm glad you saw deeper meaning in this one!

It's well directed, the mood is right, sound design is decent, it's easy to understand, and there's a message. The animation was a little too raw in some parts which took away from the experience, and the drawings are too basic. Also, although the title of the video is what lead me to watch it, I don't see how the story of Oedipus relates here, besides having a father, mother, and son. I don't thinks it fits here. Good work overall though :)

dmarkovic responds:

I was more trying to focus on the strength of a childs love for his mother and how he was willing to risk his health and safety for the happiness of his mother... not the whole sexual love towards mother to the extend he kills his father over his jealousy kinda thing, no way, trying to go a lot more basic in a sense. thanks for the feedback!

I totally agree, this is your best work yet. It's not just the animation, it's the storyboarding too. You seem to be a natural director, the sort of person who could head a team working on a project. I would love to work with you on something one day. It's awesome you learned a lot and hopefully this is just the start of even better things.

gildedguy responds:

Thank you, I'm trying my best to improve myself in all aspects of animation and film making!

God I love this.

OddHead responds:

thank you :)

As soon as I saw the title I gave this a 5, it something that a lot of of creators either miss out on or don't put enough though into. As far as the contents of the film, I wasn't disappointed. I pretty much agree with everything makestuff said. Never stop experimenting.

LifelessAnimation responds:

Thank you for your kind words!

Didn't even look at the other entries, I already know yours is the best. Hope you win dude!

gildedguy responds:

We won't know who's the best until the very end! You can vote for multiple entries anyways.

If you're a fan of your own work, then you'll be fine ~ Start small. If you can't, then start smaller ~ If you don't love what you put out, don't expect anyone else to
