This has got me jonesing. All your art is really good thanks to your wonderful lighting techniques, among other things.

SH0TT responds:

Thank you! Lighting is one of my favorite parts of rendering so its real cool to hear you like it

This took me by surprise. Big points for imagination (assume its original). Biggest complaint is the anatomy in the legs and feet. I think this may be worth revisiting if that's your sort of thing. Maybe expand it to 16:9 so I can add it to my wallpaper collection? Just spitballing here.

MaxDidIt responds:

Thank you very much! Yes, it is an original idea :-)

Fair enough on the legs, that part of the anatomy is something I'm still practicing. But I'm making progress :-)

Is there a secret to drawing hair or is it just a "git gud" situation?

PkBlitz responds:

Well, I wouldn't say there's a secret, but there's techniques and reasoning/ways of approaching it in your mind. I approach hair as ribbons, then break those ribbons into smaller ribbons, draw some flyaway hairs and such. But there are so many ways to paint hair and I feel like I'm still far from mastering it, VERY far! It's super hard to paint.

Lots of detail in this one! The values are not very strong though making it hard to know what I'm looking at. I think if the red was more saturated it would also help to bring the focus more to the person. Other than that, good sense of depth and nice composition.

MacOFlannigan responds:

Thank you for the feedback! That is something I tend to struggle with, I get too caught up in not wanting it to look too cartoonish sometimes and wind up using weaker values, I'll try to work on this more going forward.

Wow, beautiful work. I personally don't like the mix of the painterly style with cg graphics (for example some of the lines in the tree lack anti-aliasing and the land is a bit messy) but overall very solid and impressive painting.

Edit: I'm no expert on fields of grass, but I'd say approach it the same way you would draw hair. Break it up into well-defined sections and only start connecting them once you establish enough detail. With a painting this big it would take a lot of time though. The thumbnail is great which is the most important thing.

Ballu-Corsair responds:

Yeah, do you know how can I make land look more sharp? Since I think it looks unfinished

The title needs some work (positioning, size, flow of words) but the image is really attention-grabbing. Great job on the watercolor background.

sylvrn responds:

Thanks! I'm definitely more of an illustrator than a graphic designer, and I don't think I was completely satisfied with the lettering myself. Thanks for the crit!

I'm still just waiting to be able to buy an art print of Pitch Gorgon. It's been 2 years lol.

Edit: THANKS!!! $10 for shipping is a big oof but still worth it, you can't find art like this anywhere else.

Sorry, about that! I forgot I uploaded these here. I personally had canvases made of all three gorgons about a year ago, but couldn't find anywhere to physically sell them so I kinda just stuck em in a closet and forgot about em for a while lol

Extremely lit for the most part. The perspective is very pleasing to look at and the colors, comp, lighting, depth, pose etc. are all great. The anatomy and proportions just need a little attention. For example: her right hand reminds me of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5t_tgiWatvs and there's a noticeable lack of definition between her neck and her chest where the clavicle should be. Her left knee is also too pointy and you shouldn't be able to see that much of the top of her head from a low perspective.

Edit: notice how the artist exclusively responded to the only two reviews that had a hint of criticism? I have wrote about this phenomenon in great detail in my blog post, section 3: https://luckytime.newgrounds.com/news/post/1054554 Give it a read when you have some time.

rtil responds:

this painting is 2 years old.

Good job on your ~0.07 points of improvement in 4 years, this is why your mother and I told you to forget about art as a career path and join the military.

Edit: But seriously, this is fantastic. Yes, it can be improved, but given the nature of Rick & Morty as a cartoon which oozes stylistic design, you can get away with more. The concept is still great and look how big it is! That said, third time's the charm.

kittenbombs1 responds:

I'LL SHOW YOU DAD! EVEN IF IT KILLS ME!

Where do these ideas come from?! These images look like they came straight out of a dream that was captured moments after waking up. They look too inspired to be random. Great job either way.

Moonshen responds:

Beautiful question!
I have theories but the truth is that I don't know, is a mystery, so persistent , always moving me to do these things :)

If you're a fan of your own work, then you'll be fine ~ Start small. If you can't, then start smaller ~ If you don't love what you put out, don't expect anyone else to
